My new shoe

This is my new shoe.

I got it yesterday.

I have a broken foot.

I get to wear my new shoe for 6 weeks.

I don’t like my new shoe.

On the road

I’m on the road again, this year seems like I’m on the road all the time. Most of the time I don’t mind the travel but this is a busy week at home and I feel like I’m missing a lot. This is the first week of school and it’s the first time I’ve missed the first day of school, that makes me a little sad.  Where do I draw the line between work and family? Family has to come first but I need my job, I feel torn.

That’s it for today, it’s turning into a pity party.  Time to get back to work!

Yesterday was moving day, we moved our oldest son Brandon from College Station to Austin. I believe it may have been the hottest day of the year, talk about working up a sweat.

We knew it would be a long day so we fixed some breakfast tacos and ate before we hit the road to College Station. Once we got there we got to work packing, loading and cleaning. We finished and were ready to leave College Station around 2:00 PM. On the way out-of-town we stopped to get gas and realized we were all hungry, since there was a McDonald’s at the gas station we just grabbed something from there….I remember why I don’t eat at McDonald’s, none of us felt very good by the time we got to Austin!

We got to Austin and he got all the paper work signed and got the keys to his new apartment a little after 5:00 PM. We got to work unloading everything; boy does he have a mess. After we got everything unloaded we all got in the car and drove to the office where he had an interview scheduled for the next morning (keep your fingers crossed), then went to Target to get some things he needed.  As we were leaving Target we saw a Pei Wei and got take out, went back to his apartment ate and put up some of his stuff then headed home. It was a busy and long day.

I started off the morning with my normal glass of H2Orange but this morning I knew I was going to be in an all day meeting and decided I better have some breakfast so I scrambled 2 eggs, made a small piece of toast and eat all of that with a small amount of homemade peach jam.

I brought a mug of coffee from home that I made with some of my homemade cinnamon syrup and a splash of half-n-half, there’s nothing like a good cup of coffee.

I took a glass of H2Orange to my meeting and sipped on it all morning.  We had lunch brought in for the meeting, Jason’s Deli sandwich trays. I had 1/2 sandwich on ww bread with mustard, some chips, some fruit and some cheese ball.

I made another glass of H2Orange to sip on during the afternoon.

The meeting ran long, it was almost 7:00 PM when I got home and I was exhausted. I’m very lucky, Tim stepped in decided what we were having for dinner and made it. We had grilled turkey, swiss and spinach sandwiches, they were great. After eating I vegged on the couch with Clint and watched some Friday Night Lights that we had on the DVR. It was a nice evening!

H2Orange

For the record when I mention H2Orange I’m not referring to the new bottled water.

Naturally Slim is a program that was offered for some at my place of employment. I did not qualify for the program but was impressed with the results that the participants achieved.  I decided to do the program on my own and have had good results.

Part of the program is to drink H2Orange, a mixture of 1 part not-from-concentrate orange juice and 7 parts water.  This mixture helps because it keeps your blood sugar up just a bit, it gives you more energy, keeps your metabolism going as if you were eating small meals through out the day and makes it easier to know when you are hungry. If you have hypoglycemia or diabetes, sip on it all day long and this can prevent your blood sugar from going too low.

Weekend Journal

Weekends are usually busy for us; Sarah plays on a select soccer team so we do a lot of traveling to soccer games. The season hasn’t started yet so we had some extra time this weekend.

Saturday got off to a relaxed start with us just chilling around the house drinking some good coffee, doing a little laundry and cleaning.  We went to Georgetown around lunch to borrow my parent’s truck (it’s bigger than ours) since we are moving our oldest son Brandon from College Station to Austin this Tuesday.  For lunch we went to Dos Salsas Café, this is a great little family owned restaurant in downtown Georgetown it’s always packed.  I had the shredded chicken chimichanga with their tomatillo sauce, it was amazing!  After lunch we did a little back to school shopping with Sarah and then just hung out at Mother’s and visited the rest of the afternoon.

Tim went to a poker game Saturday night at Dee and Jennifer’s and Jennifer came over to our house.  We have friends that have a 2-year-old and 3 month old twins, the Mom was out-of-town and the Dad was playing poker too so Jennifer and I got to keep the kids and get our baby fix.  It’s fun to play with the babies and then give them back!  We weren’t sure till the last-minute who was going to be at our house Saturday night so we decided to just order pizza, I had a couple of pieces and a little chex mix.

Since Saturday was a late night Sunday got off to a late start.  I spent some time planning out the menu for the week and making a grocery list then Tim and I ran some errands and went grocery shopping for the week.  We went back home and put up the groceries grabbed Sarah and headed back out to Luby’s for lunch where I had the LuAnn plate with liver and onions, cabbage, jalapeno cornbread and mac-n-cheese. After lunch we went back home did a little more laundry, some food prep for the week and took a nap.

Late afternoon we went over to Dee and Jennifer’s for their daughter’s birthday party.  I had a slice of pizza, a piece of cookie cake, some chips and dip. We hung out there for a while and then headed home for the night.  I had put on a pot of beans before we left for the party, when we got home I made some cornbread and had a small bowl of beans and cornbread.

This weekend was a nice weekend, we spent time with family and good friends and that always makes for a nice weekend.

I had to cancel my morning walk with Dana after my trail walk last night, my gimpy toes were killing me.  I feel better this morning but I decided it was better to baby them.

Surprisingly I wasn’t hungry this morning even though I didn’t have much supper last night so I just had my usual glass of H2Orange while I was getting ready for work.

I had a mug of coffee with Hazelnut Biscotti creamer drank most of it then got busy and let the rest get cold.

Jennifer and I went to Oscar Store for lunch since I had been craving fried pickles.  Fried pickles are so bad for you but they are soooo good.  We split a basket and then each ordered a burger, we should have split the burgers since neither one of us finished ours. I was really hungry when we got there so I ate way to much.

We almost always eat out on Friday nights and even though I had way to much at lunch I still ate out with the family.  We ate at La Gloria’s and I had the mixed fajitas with corn tortillas.  I only ate a little of it since I was still full, we took the rest home.

I ate way to much today and feel it, all I want to do is sleep.

I was outside for our walk at 5 AM but Dana didn’t show, I asked Tim if he wanted to walk but that was a no go and instead of doing what I should and walking by myself I sat on the couch and watched some shows I had DVR’d. Shame on me ,maybe I’ll be motivated enough to walk while Sarah has soccer practice tonight.

5:30 AM had a glass of H2Orange.

7:00 AM had a small bowl of Kashi Heart to Heart® Warm Cinnamon Oat Cereal – We stopped eating breakfast when we started the Naturally Slim program because we found we really weren’t hungry in the mornings but this morning I was hungry, my stomach was growling.

8:30 AM had a mug of coffee with hazelnut creamer – didn’t finish it.

8:30 AM fixed a glass of H2Orange – will sip on this all morning.

12:00 PM Tim and I went to lunch at Little Mexico, we hadn’t been there in years.  The food was OK, not bad but not good, what a waste.  I had the #1 lunch special; one cheese enchilada, one beef taco, one chile con queso tostada, rice and beans plus chips, salsa and queso. – I was really hungry, my stomach had been talking to me for an hour before we went to lunch but after eating chips I could have skipped the meal and been good.

1:30 PM fixed another glass of H2Orange – will sip on this all afternoon.

5:30 PM got home and wasn’t hungry but I was really sleepy so I took a short cat nap and felt much better.

7:30 PM Sarah had soccer practice so I laced up my walking shoes and went on a 3.24 mile walk on the trail around the soccer fields.  It was really hot out still but I was glad I did it.  The only problem was that by the end of the walk my messed up toes were killing me, I’m going to have to go to the doctor.  I wound up having to email Dana to cancel our morning walk.

It was really hot outside so I worked up a good sweat!

9:00 PM when we got home from practice I was a little hungry so I ate a small handful of triscuit thin crisps and I was good for the night.

5:00 AM 3 mile walk with Dana – the walk felt good, we were slower than we have been in the past but it felt nice to get out and move.

2 glasses of H2Orange while getting ready for work – I was really thirsty when I got back from the walk so I drank the first glass fast, I didn’t finish the second glass.

1 mug of coffee – I tried to go lighter on the creamer and I didn’t finish the mug, it just didn’t hit the spot.

1 glass of H2Orange – I’ll sip on this all morning.

2 prunes – I’ve been a little stopped up so I’m eating some prunes today, they really are good!

Small amount of Greek yogurt, honey and Kashi® GOLEAN Crunch!® – I had this and the prunes around 9:30, my stomach wasn’t growling but I was a little hungry, more than anything it just sounded good.

11:30 – taco salad with Fritos and a glass of tea. – I wasn’t really hungry yet but Jennifer was ready for lunch so I went downstairs with her.

1:00 – Clint brought my car to me and Jennifer and I took him to Wilsonart then went to Dairy Queen for a mini blizzard. Again I wasn’t hungry but it sounded good, it didn’t taste as good as it sounded. mini mint Oreo blizzard has 338.33 calories, 11.67 grams of fat, 0.5833 grams of fiber, and 7 grams of protein – not worth it.

3:00 Ice Cream Social at work – I think I’ll skip this since I already had my ice cream for the day!

6:00 Leftover sloppy joe, chips and a beer – hard to say if I was hungry or not, we’ve trained ourselves to eat as soon as we can when we get home.  As soon as we get home we start supper because kids have homework or sports or something is always going on, so I’m not sure if I was hungry or if it was just habit.  Sad to say but the beer was the best part of the meal.

Fell asleep on the couch around 8:30 woke up, stumbled to bed and was dead to the world!

Jen’s Blog

I’ve been reading Jen’s blog Prior Fat Girl for a few months now, WOW what an inspiration she is!  She’s motivated me to try something new.

I’ve tried to log my food in the past but have always gotten bogged down trying to make it perfect and then I’ve just given up.  So after reading what Jen’s therapist has her trying I’ve decided to track my food and feelings.

I want to focus more on why I’m eating.  I need to get in touch with my body and the signals it sends me so I can focus on eating when I’m truly hungry and only eating food that I really want.  That’s also the backbone of the Naturally Slim program that I’ve been having success with but I’m catching myself falling into old habits and I am hoping the journal will help.

We’ll see how it goes…..
